A mosque is a sacred place where Muslims gather for worship and perform prayers. In mosques, people worship together, read the Quran, and receive religious teachings. Most mosques have tall minarets next to them; from these minarets, the call to prayer (adhan) is recited to inform people of prayer times. Mosques and minarets are also highly significant from a religious and architectural perspective. Some mosques are historic and hold a special place in Azerbaijani culture. Mosques can be built in cities and villages, and they can be either small or large in size.
