Mosque is the name given to a religious place where Muslims pray and worship. In mosques, people come together to perform Friday and holiday prayers. Usually, there is one or several minarets next to mosques, from which the call to prayer (azan) is given. In many cities of Azerbaijan, there are historic and modern mosques dating back to different periods. Besides religious ceremonies, mosques are sometimes used for social and cultural events as well.
