A mosque is a Muslim religious temple intended for worship. People perform prayers, make supplications, and hold religious ceremonies there. Most mosques have a large prayer hall and one or several minarets. The call to prayer is announced from the minarets, inviting people to the mosque. Mosques and minarets also play a central role in the religious and cultural life of cities and villages. In many regions of Azerbaijan, there are both historical and newly built mosques.
