A mosque is a place built for worship where Muslims pray together. Congregational prayers, religious ceremonies, and Islamic education are held in mosques. Some mosques have tall minarets nearby, where the call to prayer is announced and the congregation is informed of prayer times. In Azerbaijan, many mosques are recognized as examples of both historical and modern architecture. Mosques play an important social and religious role for the community.
