  • National Library of Azerbaijan named after M.F. Akhundov — the largest library in the country

    History:
    Established in 1922 and officially opened on May 23, 1923. In 1939, it was named after the prominent thinker and playwright Mirza Fatali Akhundov. In 1960, the library moved to a new building designed by architect Mikayil Useynov. Today, it serves not only as a repository of books but also as a cultural hub and scientific-methodological center for all libraries in Azerbaijan

  • The library's collection includes approximately 4.5 million items: books, journals, sheet music, manuscripts, microfilms, audio recordings, and archives

    It is equipped with book transport elevators, has four reading rooms with a total capacity of 500 seats, electronic cataloging, an automated management system, and digital versions of documents

  • The library fulfills a state mission of preserving the national cultural heritage and promoting knowledge

    It participates in international exchange and is a member of the Conference of European National Librarians (CENL)

  • Presentation of the New Logo
    On June 25, 2025, the library held a launch ceremony for its new logo. The design incorporates an eight-pointed star symbolizing national identity, the silhouette of an open book, and the image of a person in front of a monitor — representing the unity of traditional knowledge and the digital future.
    The concept was presented by Professor Karim Tahirov, Director of the Library, and designer Elchin Ashurov

    Opening of Book Exhibition Honoring Professor Khalil Yusifli
    On July 16, 2025, the library opened an exhibition titled “People’s Artist, Professor Khalil Yusifli — 90.”
    The display features documents, academic works, photographs, and publications dedicated to Professor Yusifli’s jubilee.
