Qaragöz is a puppet that is one of the main characters of shadow theater. Qaragöz traditionally originated during the Ottoman period, and its name refers both to the puppet and to the performances. In the plays, Qaragöz reflects village life, the problems of ordinary people, and the funny incidents encountered in daily life. Qaragöz village, on the other hand, is a real village, not a company or establishment. Although mainly associated with shadow plays, the name Qaragöz can also be given to villages. Indeed, there are several villages named Qaragöz in different regions of Azerbaijan.
