Maiden Tower is an ancient tower located in the center of Baku. It dates back to the 12th century and was built during the Shirvanshah era. The tower is one of the most visited historical monuments in the Caucasus. Maiden Tower was once used for defensive purposes as well as an observation post. Nowadays, there is a museum operating inside, which attracts many tourists. This place, popular for sightseeing, is considered one of the national symbols of Azerbaijan.
