A reservoir is a large structure built on the surface or underground to store significant amounts of water. These reservoirs are typically constructed on rivers and are used for drinking water, irrigation, or industrial purposes. In Azerbaijan, reservoirs are registered as “Hydrological Monuments” and protected by the state. Reservoirs assist with agriculture, providing drinking water to the population, and preventing floods. Well-known reservoirs such as Mingachevir, Shamkir, and Vaikhir operate in Azerbaijan. These facilities play a major role in the proper distribution of the country’s water resources.
