A reservoir is a large artificial structure that collects and stores water from rainfall, snow, and other sources. In Azerbaijan, reservoirs are mainly used for irrigation, drinking water supply, and energy production. These facilities are classified as “hydrological monuments” and play an important role in the management of environmental water resources. The most well-known reservoirs are the Mingachevir, Shamkir, and Yenikand reservoirs. They regulate the water supply needed for agriculture and industry. Reservoirs also help to reduce the risk of flooding and support the protection of ecosystems.
