A reservoir is an engineering structure built for the collection and storage of water. In Azerbaijan, reservoirs are mainly used for water supply, irrigation, and energy production purposes. Examples of such structures include the Mingachevir, Shamkir, and Varvara reservoirs. Reservoirs play an important role in the management of water resources and the protection of the environment. They supply water for agriculture as well as provide a source of drinking water for the population. The management of reservoirs is usually carried out by the state or specialized organizations.
