A reservoir is a special facility built for the collection and storage of water. As hydrological structures, reservoirs are mainly used for drinking water supply and agricultural irrigation. They also play a role in flood prevention and energy production. Some well-known reservoirs in Azerbaijan include the Mingachevir and Shamkir reservoirs. Each reservoir is of great importance in meeting the water needs of the region where it is located. These facilities are managed by state or private enterprises.
