A reservoir is a facility where surface or underground water is collected and stored. In Azerbaijan, many reservoirs have been constructed for agricultural, drinking water, and energy purposes. Reservoirs play an important role as hydrological monuments in managing the country’s water resources. These reservoirs collect rainwater and river water, and by storing it for use when needed, they help to reduce water shortages in summer and during droughts. Among the most well-known reservoirs in Azerbaijan are the Mingachevir and Shamkir Reservoirs. They also contribute to electricity generation and the protection of the environment.
