History
The first Mari Vanna restaurant opened in St. Petersburg in 2009. The concept quickly gained popularity, leading to new locations in Moscow, London, New York, and Baku. The Baku branch joined the network in 2016 and has since become a favorite spot for those who appreciate Russian cuisine and a homely atmosphere.

The menu features Russian classics like borsch, pelmeni, vareniki, chicken Kiev, syrniki, medovik, and Napoleon cake. There are also homemade drinks like mors, lemonades, and infused vodkas. The atmosphere resembles a nostalgic apartment with vintage decor — everything is designed to feel just like home.

The restaurant organizes children’s cooking masterclasses, where kids learn to make simple Russian dishes such as apple and cinnamon pies, lazy dumplings, and sweet pizza. Classes are held in Russian and are suitable for children aged 3 and up.

Inside, the restaurant feels like a grandmother’s home — with real family photos, vintage dressers, lace doilies, books, dishes, and old radios. Many of the items are donated by guests. The entrance looks like a Soviet-style apartment entrance with a door buzzer, giving the feeling that you’re visiting someone’s home. It all creates a warm, nostalgic, and welcoming atmosphere that keeps guests coming back.

Each Mari Vanna restaurant, including Baku, features a mascot — a cat named Varvara, represented as a plush toy or mechanical figure. You’ll find her in the interior or available as a souvenir. She adds a touch of coziness and a bit of playful charm to the experience.
